Salango Museum is located in Salango, Ecuador. It is the most important
archaeological site in Ecuador and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since
1979. It contains well over 4,000 ceramic artifacts from South America that
date back thousands of years ago. The site also has over 6,000 carvings, statues
and paintings by indigenous tribes. The Museum is
dedicated to the collection and exhibition of ceramic art created by the ancient
cultures that inhabited Ecuador prior to its Spanish colonization. This
impressive collection consists of a wide variety of ceramics, ranging from
single-handled cups and bowls to jugs, bowls and plates -- each beautifully
decorated with vivid colors.
